Mangaluru, May 11: The water level at the Thumbe vented dam dropped considerably and currently the water level stands at 3.94 meter. Water rationing has begun in the city and supply is being carried out every alternate day.
On Thursday, areas falling under Byndoor pump house like Court Ward, Car Street, Bavutagudde, Akashvani, Padavu, Gorigudde, Sooterpete, Shivabagh, Byndoor, Kadri, Vas Lane, Kudroli, Fishing port, Kodialbail were supplied drinking water.
Similarly, areas falling under Padil pump like Mangaladevi, Attavara, Babugudde, Valencia, Jappinamogaru, Bikarnakatte, Ullal Nagar, Bajal, Tiruvailu, Vamanjoor and areas falling under Shaktinagar tank like Kunjathbail, Mugrodi, Shaktinagar, Sanjay Nagar, Preeti Nagar, Manjadka, Rajivnagara, Bondel, Gandhinagar, Shantinagar, Kavoor, Thumbay, Panamboor and areas that fall under the direct route to Panamboor like Kankanady, Naguri, Pumpwell, Balloorugudde and Padil were supplied with water on Thursday.
On Thursday, water levels at Thumbe and AMR dams stood at 3.94 meter and 15.48 meter respectively. On Wednesday, the levels were 3.98 and 15.52 meters. Water is receding by 0.1 meter per day in both the dams. Everyday 15 to 20 MLD of water is being pumped from Harekala to maintain the water level at Thumbe dam.
Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Mayor of MCC, said, “The water levels at Thumbe and AMR dams is depleting rapidly. Water is being pumped from Harekala dam. Water is being supplied to the city every day from Thumbe dam. Water rationing is in progress and the same will continue till the onset of monsoon.”
