Udupi, May 8: A lifeguard at Malpe beach was assaulted by a group of six tourists on Wednesday, May 8 evening.
The victim, lifeguard Teja Kotian, had instructed the group not to venture into the rough sea, as it was unsafe. Despite the warnings, the group ignored the alerts and continued to swim beyond the designated safe boundaries.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, lifeguard Teja Kotian intervened. However, instead of cooperating, the group members attacked him.
Following the assault, other lifeguards and Homeguards present at the scene attempted to apprehend the assailants as they fled in a Swift Maruti car with license plate number KAO4 AD8286.
A case has been filed at Malpe police station.
