Mangalore, Oct 13: The Department of Post is celebrating ‘National Postal Week’ from Sunday October 9 to Friday October 14. As a part of this celebration, a philatelic exhibition was organized at the head post office here on Wednesday October 12.
It was inaugurated by T G Naik, senior superintendent of post offices, Mangalore. A formal function was held at Mangalore head post office premises at 9 am.
Srinivas Baikady, vice-president, Dakshina Kannada Philatelic Association, was the guest of honour who addressed the gathering. He said that philately is the king of hobbies and should be encouraged among children.
He further said that children should be encouraged to open philatelic deposit accounts. Dr G G Laxman Prabhu, associate professor of KMC and an active member of DK Philatelic Club, spoke about the vital role played by the department of posts in society.
He explained the importance of philately and how stamps provide information about world history and other fields of technology, science, and arts. He complimented Mansoor for arranging the exhibition well.
Maxi G Pinto, ASP, (HQ) Mangalore, welcomed. S S Mutnal, senior postmaster, Mangalore HO, delivered the vote of thanks. Rashma Shetty, head, Philatelic Bureau, compered the programme.
