Bangalore: Youth Congress Election Turns Ugly

Bangalore, Oct 13: The first round of elections of the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee, at the levels of Lok Sabha, Legislative Assembly and state units began here on Wednesday October 12 reflecting the ‘Congress Culture’ with group commotion, open fire in the air, dirty politics, bogus voting among other incidents reported.
There was lot of chaos and tumult in various parts of the state including Bangalore, Mysore, Bijapur, Sagara. In Bijapur a supporter of a candidate fired openly in the air and thus brought election process in the state to a new low.
Sayyed who was contesting for president’s post in Bijar legislative assembly had a war of words with his rival candidate. At that time Sayyed’s friend Irfan fired openly in the air and threatened the rival candidate. The youth Congress has taken the incident seriously and have barred Sayyed from contesting for the elections for six years, say the sources.
As many as 18,768 of the 37,391 voters cast their votes in 112 assembly constituencies. There are 37,391 eligible voters who were earlier elected at Booth level as President, Vice President, General Secretary. There are 18 candidates in fray. Veteran Congress leaders, including Union Minister Mallikarjun Kharge's son Priyank Kharge are trying their political fortunes in the election. Counting of votes would be held on October 15.
The Karnataka Youth Congress elections took an ugly turn late on Wednesday when supporters of a senior party leader reportedly whisked away 60-odd voters from Malur Assembly constituency in Kolar and brought them to Bangalore. The parental body of the Youth Congress is not supposed to involve in this election as the rules strictly forbid them.
