Berlin, Oct 12 (IANS): Germany defeated Belgium 3-1 to record their tenth victory after as many Euro 2012 qualification matches in group A at Duesseldorf Arena.
With the victory Tuesday, Germany qualified for the UEFA European Championships 2012 in Poland and Ukraine as the Group A leaders.
Belgium initially shocked the German "Nationalelf" with their aggressive game, Xinhua reported.
But as the match progressed Germany took over to open the scoring through midfielder Mesut Oezil who hammered home a rebound from the penalty line in the 30th minute.
Germany doubled the lead within three minutes when young striker Andre Schuerrle finished a counter attack with a lob, leaving Belgium hapless by the quick 0-2 deficit.
Three minutes after the break, striker Mario Gomez slotted home with a well placed left footed shot from 17 metres into the bottom right to stretch the lead 3-0.
The match remained a one-sided affair although the Belgians were able to shorten the score to 1-3 through midfielder Marouane Fellaini who nodded home a corner four minutes before the final whistle from goal area.
The tenth victory at the tenth match is a national record for the German national squad since 1982.
"It was important to have a clean sheet after ten matches to send out a message," German national coach Joachim Loew said after the match.
