Kumta: Seven Killed, 40 Injured as Bus Plunges into Paddy Field

Kumta, Oct 11: Seven persons were killed and 40 injured when the KSRTC bus from Dharmasthala in which they were travelling met with an accident here late on Monday October 10 night.
The accident occured on NH 17 in Devagi near Kumta here when the bus rolled over from the side of a bridge and plunged into a paddy field. The bus was plying to Bagalkot. As it was raining heavily, the bus skid off the road near Harkade cross and fell over, it is learnt.
The deceased have been identified as conductor Ramprasad Talwar (37), Ashok Revankar (49), Shobha Shastri (47), Nagaraj Naik (45) and his toddler daughter Rakshita, Rasool Ali Khan (28) and Mrityunjaya (35).
Among them, six were killed on the spot while the child died in the hospital.
Around 60 people are said to have been travelling in the bus. The injured have been shifted to Kumta government hospital.
Police with the help of locals rescued the injured. A case has been registered by the Kumta police.
