Udupi, Apr 21: Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K emphasized the constitutional significance of the right to vote, urging every citizen to actively participate in the democratic process.
Addressing attendees at the " Namma Nade Mata Katte Kade" programme organised by the District Administration District Sweep Committee and Municipal Council Udupi at the Valakadu Government High School in Udupi city on Sunday, April 21, DC Vidya Kumari underscored the precious nature of the voting right bestowed by the Constitution. She stressed the importance of exercising this right during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 26 and May 7.
In particular, she called upon the youths to visit polling stations on election days and cast their votes, while also encouraging them to mobilise their families, peers, and fellow villagers to recognise the significance of voting.
To bolster awareness, a campaign titled "Namma Nade Mata Katte Kade" has been initiated, focusing on educating voters about the available facilities across 1842 polling booths within the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency.
Prateek Baya , zilla panchayat CEO and District Sweep Committee chairman highlighted the evolution of voting rights in India. He emphasised that post-independence, every individual has been granted the fundamental right to vote, marking a significant stride towards inclusive democracy.
The programme witnessed the presence of CMC Commissioner Rayappa, school teachers, polling booth level officials, students, and members of the public, reflecting a collective commitment to democratic engagement and electoral responsibility.
