Mangalore: Apologies to a Labourer, Korean Style!

Mangalore, Oct 9: An engineer of Korean nationality, who assaulted a local labourer working in SEZ and later apologised, was the centre of all attention here on Saturday October 8, not exactly for the apology, but the amusing manner in which he did it!
It was rather a rare sight in this part of the world to see the foreign national bend his knees, fall to the ground and apologise to a labourer, and for sure, it took everyone by surprise.
Here's what happened. A company which has taken up some work on contract basis from ISPRL has been working with both Indian and Korean engineers. There had been some complaint from a labourer against a Korean engineer, Kim, alleging arrogant behaviour. Based on the complaint, Kim was also given a warning.
On Saturday at 4.30 am, Kim who came to the site is said to have assaulted one Chandrahas, a resident of Kinnigoli (also an SEZ victim) with helmet and torch, compelling him to work. Moreover, it is alleged that he insulted him stating 'Indians are beggars'. Furious at this, labourers in hundreds demonstrated till 11 am in front of his office. Initially he did not turn up, but once he feared the possibility of an assault on him, he came out and apologised, bending his knees and touching his head to the ground.
The labourers, somewhat amused as well as taken aback, withdrew their protest and Chandrahas was admitted to hospital. No information is available yet on what action the higher authority has taken against Kim.
