Kundapur: Couple dies, son survives after car plunges from flyover

Kundapur, Apr 11: A couple died, and their son survived in the accident that occurred on Tuesday on the flyover opposite Bobbaryanakatte. A speeding car had fallen from the flyover onto the service road as the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The deceased are identified as Munnavar (49), who was driving the car, and his wife Sameera (41), natives of Kannur in Kerala. Their son Suhail (18), who was in the car, was seriously injured but is recovering at Manipal Hospital and said to be out of danger.

Munnavar and his family were traveling to Kannur from Kollapur as his wife Sameera is a native of Kannur in Kerala. As soon as the mishap occurred, all three in the car were rushed to the hospital in Kundapur. Sameera died immediately upon admission to the hospital, while Munnavar succumbed to injuries at Manipal Hospital on Wednesday. The mortal remains of both were handed over to relatives after the post-mortem.

It is said that overspeed and negligence on the part of driver Munnavar are the causes of the accident. Kundapur traffic police are investigating further.

    Over speeding and driving long hours without sleep are some of the common causes of such horrific accidents. Blaming the infrastructure is not right. Not everyday that accidents are happening on this road. Having said that, accidents may happen again there if speed limits are not followed or driving without proper rest.

    World class cars with thrird class roads these accidents do happens in India, there is No comon sense while road safety on over bridges highways and every cross raods on highway , people from service road just entering with any slow down or looking there and here ,it is too difficulty to manage who is on the highyway , our NHRI Department is dumb and deff.

    Very sad.am sure overspeed was the reason and whether one had belts on ?Not all people do this ,thinking when Police is there slip on and later slip off belts.Never think it can save life .No strict rules ,no proper driving speed many vehicles and ,two wheelers bikes make still worst.When will such people learn safer driving can save their and others life?Best is Police should keep cameras on highways hidden and let one feel the pain when they have to pay heavily.Cancel the licence when certain points are collected.But our Police too are not saints.Corruption is making others to feel and suffer.May the souls of deceased may rest in Peace.Heartfelt sympathys to the boy and their families.

    To drive on Indian highways need special psychological and driving training. Most common problems are lane driving, animals, slow drivers, vehicles on opposition directions, excessive honking, unscientific road crossing, unauthorised parking , unscientific intersection,exit and entry, bridge joints,gap in spans,poor finishing, bumps on highways. These all shortcomings made india No:1 in road accidents. Finally festival processions in highways 😅😅😅 is exclusively designed for india.

    these kind of accidents are quite common in third world countrieas..the design and the side protection given on flyovers are too unscientific...should send our NHAI engineers to gulf countries to see how they maintain roads and markings....too corrupt people in our coutnry...

    If speed limits are followed then accidents become rare. Speed Limits are fixed based on road and safety standards and presently the speed limit of old National Highways is 80kmph, but nobody wants to follow this.

    Driver's training lacking in INDIA -- Strict guidelines while issuing license---- all eventualities not factored in -- Many think getting into the car -- pressing accelerator is driving -- --many have experience only on city roads or in small towns --villages-- Highway driving is a lot different from such experience -- --First of all Hi-speed major cause-- - then momentum of vehicle to be factored-- -- road banking -- curves -- narrow roads and various hazards on our highways -- sudden one way -- debris on road -- playing loud music -- Air-conditioned car -- distracting by talking / music--- mobile phones etc. -- etc. -- Unfortunately, a family gone with one survivor and to live with lifelong trauma -- a needless tragedy -- RIP --
