Mangalore: Musical Nite by Vivekananda Sports Club Entertains for a Cause

Mangalore, Oct 6: City's Vivekananda Sports Club presented an entertaining musical nite on the eve of Navaratri celebrations in the city on Tuesday October 4. It was the second annual presentation to have been organized by the club. The venue of the event was Padua High School Grounds, Padav, Nanthoor here.
Performances by Naushad and Group, family entertainment by Ocean Kids group and dances by Jeevandan Center, Gurpur, regalled the audience.
Rashmi Kunder, who had charmed all and sundry with her excellent dancing skills in Sony TV’s ‘Boogie Woogie’ and Zee Kannada’s ‘Kuniyona Bara’, surpassed the expectations. Some local dance groups as well as dancer Bhavya also performed at the event.
The enthusiastic audience lapped up with glee the performances which unfolded in front of their eyes one after the other.
City coprorator, Roopa D Bangera, Kadri circle inspector, Kiran, chief priest of Bhadrakali Temple, Umesh, and principal of Padua PU College, Fr Santhymayor, participated as guests. Honorary president of the club, Kaushik D Shetty, president, Vijay Bhat, secretary, Vikram Nair, treasurer, Donald Fernandes, and other office bearers were present.
Club office-bearer, Melwin R D’Souza explained about the birth and growth of the club. The president explained about various activities undertaken by the club including the social activities like assistance it extended to a cancer patient, student of a college, helping the needy by asking the club members to donate blood, etc.
Three talented persons including Sharanya, who has proficiency in skating and who won the state ‘Ekalavya’ award recently, and singer/dancer Sharat were felicitated on the occasion.
Lucky dip draw was also held at the venue.
Vivekananda Sports Club arranged the event in aid of HIV/AIDS-affected children of Jeevandan Center, Gurupar Kaikamba near here. The club, started four decades back by young boys who were playing cricket together in Padua play ground, has grown by leaps and bounds, expanding its horizons, adding new vision, and embracing causes that are relevant.
The musical nite was organized on the occasion of Navaratri celebrations under the social service initiatives of the club, and the income from the event went to the above organization towards funding its lofty ideal of helping the HIV/AIDS-affected children to lead a normal life.
The event was telecast live on a local television channel. In addition to the contribution of Rs 35,000 made by the club to Jeevandan, the organization has been receiving steady stream of do nations from those who came to know about its activities through television and other channels, it is gathered.

Last year, three achievers were felicitated by the club, namely Daniel Sequiera, a cricketer who plays for Mangalore United Team, dancer Kishore Aman and a Koragajja's temple priest.
Also, a cancer patient was handed over a generous donation of Rs 25,000 for medical aid.
The Vivekananda Sports Club also provided children's home 'Bala Graha' at Helipad near Mary Hill with new furnitures.
