New Delhi, Apr 4: Congress national spokesperson Gourav Vallabh made headlines on Thursday by joining the BJP shortly after resigning from the Congress party, citing it as 'directionless'.
Anil Sharma, the former Bihar Congress president, also crossed party lines to join the BJP in a ceremony attended by the national general secretary Vinod Tawde in Delhi.
In a letter addressed to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Gourav Vallabh expressed his disillusionment with the Congress party, labelling it 'directionless'. He cited reasons for his departure, including the party's stance on issues like the caste census, and his discomfort with raising 'anti-Sanatan' slogans.
"I do not resonate with the directionless trajectory of the Congress party's current path. I cannot align with the propagation of anti-Sanatana sentiments or the denigration of the nation's wealth creators. Therefore, I hereby resign from all positions and relinquish my primary membership of the Congress party," wrote Gourav Vallabh in his letter.
Known for his adept handling of Mallikarjun Kharge's Congress presidential campaign, Vallabh emerged as a prominent voice on economic matters. Despite his contributions, his political journey faced setbacks, such as his defeat in the 2023 Rajasthan assembly election from the Udaipur constituency, where the BJP candidate secured a significant victory margin of over 32,000 votes.
Vallabh had initially entered the electoral fray in 2019, contesting the Jamshedpur East seat in Jharkhand. Despite garnering over 18,000 votes, he secured the third position behind the then-incumbent chief minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.
