Mangalore: Auto Rickshaw Fares Revised, Minimum Charge Rs 17

Mangalore, Oct 4: Through an order, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Dakshina Kannada district has upwardly revised the auto rickshaw fares across the board.
While issuing the order, secretary to the RTA has informed the owners and drivers of auto rickshaws that fixing of flag metres and adjusting them to the revised rates duly certified by the legal metrology department is compulsory for all the auto rickshaws.
The minimum auto rickshaw fare has been hiked to Rs 17 for the first 1.5 km from the earlier Rs 15. Thereafter, the auto rickshaws are eligible to collect Rs 12 for every km of journey from the passengers. Waiting charges for the first 15 minutes will be free, while 25 percent of the fare for every 45 minutes of waiting thereafter will be charged.
The first 20 kg of luggage will be transported free of cost. Every 20 kg or part thereof over and above the minimum prescribed can be charged at two rupees. The fares between 10 pm and 5 am will be one and half times the normal fare.
It is mandatory for the auto rickshaws to exhibit a copy of the revised fare approved by the RTA in a predominant spot inside the vehicle. The metres should adopt new fares duly certified by the concerned department, before October 31. The auto rickshaws which have permit to move within the city can collect one and half times the fare between the borders of the city to the destination, secretary to RTA said.
