Kasargod, Oct 3: Time and again, rumours have been rife of salespersons and shopkeepers of garment stores hiding spy cameras in trial rooms, and women and girls have often been instructed to be careful, through e-mails, articles and other forms of media with suggestions on how to detect hidden cameras.
One such incident has come to light now, with an employee of a garments shop in Payyanur arrested by police on charges of clandestinely videotaping girls when they changed clothes in the shop's trial room.
He has been identified as P C Zubair (40), salesman-cum-supervisor of a garments store on main road near old bus stand in Payyanur. He is a resident of Taliparamba Nittuvayal.
A dental college student from Karanthod in Payyanur had visited the said shop on Saturday October 1 evening, to buy a readymade garment. When she was in the trial room, she noticed that a mobile phone had been installed secretly in a corner of the room. She then took out the mobile phone and complained to the personnel posted at the police help desk at the bus stand.
The police found that some scenes of girls changing clothes had been recorded in the mobile phone. On questioning the owner of the shop and employees, they came to know that the mobile phone belonged to Zubair. He was arrested immediately. A case was registered against him.
The locals, angered at the incident, barged into the shop, and vandalized it. Clothes, furniture, etc were destroyed and glass items were shattered. The policemen rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by closing the shop. Because of this incident, traffic in the road suffered for a couple of hours.
