Mangalore: Prepaid Auto Service Launched in City

Mangalore Oct 2: Prepaid auto booths were inaugurated at KSRTC, Bejai and central railway station here on Sunday October 2.
The booths were inaugurated by president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Latha R Kini and deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda.
Addressing the gathering, city police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the prepaid auto system will address the complaints of passengers that they are often harassed by auto drivers who demand extra fare. The booths will be maintained at a nominal of fee of Rs 1 per trip, he said.
Deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda said that the prepaid auto system will solve the problem of overcharging by some auto drivers and passengers will know the exact amoun to be paid for a particular distance withing corporation limits. However, for distance outside the MCC limits, the charge would be 1.5 times of that displayed on the meter.
He added that during night hours, between 10 pm and 5 am, the charges would be 1.5 times the charge on the meter. Passengers can call helplines on 100 or 2220577 for any complaints, he said.
The inaugural ceremony was jointly organised by the district administration, the city police, the transport department, and Mangalore Association of Travel Agents.
