Mangaluru Mar 22: Congress’ Dakshina Kannada MP candidate Padmaraj R was greeted with an enthusiastic reception by Congress leaders and representatives upon his arrival at Mangaluru International Airport on Friday, March 22.
A crowd of supporters and leaders had gathered outside the airport premises, where they raised slogans and extended a hearty welcome to Padmaraj.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress MP candidate Padmaraj said, "When the Congress party selects a leader, they prioritize individuals who represent and advocate for the welfare of the poor. Both senior and junior party members have expressed satisfaction with my candidacy, which led to my selection by the high command. I am committed to fulfilling my responsibilities to the best of my ability. Tulu Nadu, birthplace of eminent figures like Narayan Guru and Kuvempu, requires significant development, and we aim to leverage the expertise of various professionals to strengthen Mangaluru."
Highlighting the need for capable leadership, Padmaraj questioned the frequent changes in BJP MPs, stating, "Mere changes in leadership do not lead to progress. It is essential for leaders to possess the capability to deliver. The Congress party is dedicated to the development of the district, and we will work tirelessly towards this goal. Despite perceptions of powerlessness, we possess ample capacity. I am grateful to have commenced my political journey under the guidance of Janardhan Poojary, whom I consider my mentor and teacher."
Addressing issues of financial assistance, Padmaraj reflected on the struggles faced by individuals, particularly women, in accessing funds, stating, "In the past, women faced difficulties in securing even small amounts of money. However, today, the Congress party stands committed to assisting the economically disadvantaged, providing financial aid ranging from Rs 5,000-Rs 7,000 to each family."
Responding to inquiries about Congress' prospects in Dakshina Kannada, traditionally considered a BJP stronghold, Padmaraj challenged the notion, asserting, "While some may label Dakshina Kannada as a BJP fortress, it's crucial to recognize the Congress party's strong presence in Mangaluru. We have previously secured victories here and worked diligently towards development. However, the BJP's introduction of communal politics, incorporating Hindutva ideologies, has posed challenges. Nevertheless, it's important to remember that we all share Hindu beliefs."
