Mumbai, Mar 21: As Bombay YMCA embarks on its sesquicentennial year celebrations; it proudly announces a significant stride towards environmental sustainability. On March 16, Bombay YMCA inaugurated solar power systems at the YMCA international house, Mumbai Central.
The ceremony, graced by Sunil Lobo, president of Bombay YMCA, and Leonard Salins, general secretary and CEO, marked a pivotal moment in the organization's commitment to renewable energy solutions. Partnering with Mpower, a leading sustainable energy provider, the installation underscores Bombay YMCA's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and fostering a greener future.
In his address, Sunil Lobo emphasized the importance of community engagement in driving sustainable practices. "The installation of solar power systems reflects our pledge to environmental stewardship and sets a precedent for other branches and centres of Bombay YMCA," he stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Leonard Salins reiterated the organization's commitment to expanding solar projects across all facilities. "Our journey towards sustainability extends beyond this installation. We envision a network of green initiatives that contribute to a healthier planet," he affirmed.
World YMCA
In its Sesquicentennial year (150th year), YMCA Bombay continues to innovate. On March 16, they installed solar power systems at YMCA International House, Mumbai Central. The systems were inaugurated by Sunil Lobo, president of YMCA Bombay and Leonard Salins, general secretary and CEO along with partner M-power.
In their remarks, the YMCA leaders committed to make other branches and centres through solar project installations - embracing renewable energy and reducing carbon footprint with reference to the Paris agreement in 2015, the world leaders agreed to substantially reduce global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to limit the global temperature increase in this century to 2 degrees Celsius and to further pursue efforts to reach a warming goal of 1.5 degrees.
At the recently held AGM of Bombay YMCA, Sunil Lobo was officially sworn in as the 42nd president of the Bombay YMCA for the year 2023-24. He took over from his predecessor, Adv Rui Rodrigues on the September 23, 2023. Sunil Lobo joined the YMCA board in 2009 and had served as the Hon General treasurer for many terms and as the finance and executive chairman in the year 2022-23.
Sunil Lobo has been a banker for over 2.5 decades with experiences in corporate and investment banking, wealth management and banking operations. He heads the corporate banking business in India for Doha Bank. Lobo is also involved in various social causes and is the president of Kanara Catholic association - a charitable institution and trustee for a school in south Mumbai and for a residential school in Panchgani. He was also the Trustee of Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana and currently is part of the managing committee team with the Catholic Gymkhana Ltd at Marine Drive, Mumbai. He is also part of the Finance Committee team of The Bandra Gymkhana, Mumbai. On his family front, Sunil’s wife is a Clinical Psychologist and also teaches at St. Andrew’s College in Bandra. They have one daughter who is currently studying.
The Bombay YMCA welcomes Sunil Lobo. The young and dynamic Sunil Lobo taking over as president of Bombay YMCA will add a lot of lustre to the organisation with his vast experience and service in non-profit organisational management.
