Mangaluru, Mar 21: BJP leader Capt Ganesh Karnik asserted on Wednesday March 20 that the NDA government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, has successfully repatriated Rs 25,000 crore of black money stashed in foreign banks. Addressing reporters, Karnik dismissed allegations of the government failing to deliver on its promise to retrieve black money, emphasizing the substantial recovery achieved and ongoing efforts to reclaim the remaining funds.
While acknowledging challenges with certain countries refusing to cooperate due to their economic policies, Karnik assured that discussions are underway to address this issue. Despite acknowledging that black money persists in the country post-demonetization, he insisted that significant strides have been made in its containment.
Regarding allegations of favouritism in awarding contracts to contributors of the electoral bonds scheme, Karnik dismissed them as unfounded, citing the Supreme Court's non-condemnation of the scheme and the Election Commission's role in making information public. He clarified that the scheme aimed to enhance transparency in political party funding, emphasizing that all parties, not just the BJP, have received funds through it.
Responding to concerns about tarnishing the Prime Minister's or the BJP's image, Karnik reiterated the transparency objective of the electoral bond scheme and stressed that allegations of favouritism would not diminish their credibility.
On the Pulwama attack inquiry, Karnik refuted claims of no investigation, stating that inquiries are not conducted publicly, and their outcomes remain confidential. He affirmed that an inquiry did occur, leading to decisive action, although specifics were not disclosed publicly.
