Disgruntled Former BJP Worker Attacks Minister Somanna with Footwear

Bangalore, Oct 1: In an embarassing incident, state housing minister Somanna was attacked with a footwear by a person identified as Prasad in the premises of Vidhana Soudha on Saturday October 1.
Prasad, a real estate broker from north Karnataka who is now residing in Gangenahalli of Hebbal in Bangalore, is said to be an activist of ABVP and former BJP party worker.

He said that he was frustrated with the BJP administration, and that not only Somanna, but anybody belonging to the party would be his target.
Reports also suggested that he was upset after the party denied him a seat in the city corporation.
Somanna was coming out after a meeting with the officers, when Prasad took the footwear off his right leg and slapped him. A shocked Somanna asked him to explain his act.
Later, supporters of Somanna and other officers beat up Prasad before he was handed over to the police for investigation. According to police sources, Prasad was drunk and he also had a knife in his posession.
He has been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for assaulting a VIP and a government servant.
