Hubballi, Mar 17: BJP leader and former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday expressed confidence that senior party leader and former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa being convinced to toe party line and desist from contesting as an independent from Shivamogga over the denial of the party ticket to his son Kanthesh.
Speaking to media persons at his residence in Hubballi, he said Eshwarappa is a senior BJP leader and will abide by the party decision despite being miffed at denial of the ticket to his son.
‘’Eshwarappa knows fully well that B Y Raghavendra, BJP sitting MP of Shivamogga, is working for the development of Shivamogga and was chosen for his work and not because his father is B S Yediyurappa,’’ said Bommai.
Answering questions from media persons, Bommai made it clear that he ‘’is unaware of any plans for changing his constituency of Haveri’’ as claimed by party leader Ramesh Jarkiholi.
‘’He (Jarkiholi) may be in touch with the high command. But I don't know what Ramesh has said about the change in the constituency. Today, I am campaigning in Shiggaon which would come under the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency and the local MP Prahlad Joshi had been given invitation. This time, Joshi would be given more lead from the Shiggaon Assembly constituency,’’ Bommai said.
He said he will be visiting Gadag district that comes under Haveri Lok Sabha constituency on Monday.
Bommai also addressed party workers at Hanagal after paying homage to senior party leader C M Udasi by offering flowers to the latter’s Samadhi.
