Kundapur, Sep 27: “My party has taken a stand against inquiry by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into illegal mining activities in the state. However, I am personally in its favour, as it will help to conserve the mineral wealth of the state,” said former Chief Minister (CM) of the state, B S Yeddyurappa. He was addressing a press conference at Kollur in the taluk on Monday September 26.
Yeddyurappa took credit for being the first to submit a detailed report on illegal mining activities in the state to the union government and Prime Minister, with a view to raise the government’s voice against this menace, adding that no previous government had done so. He said that the report submitted by the Lokayukta is not satisfactory, and that the Lokayukta, who was appointed by the Government, did not have the courtesy to contact him before serving notices.
“At present, I just represent Shikaripur constituency. The decision to organize Rath Yatra is mine, and a final decision will be taken after discussing with senior leaders and high command of the party. My endeavours will always be towards strengthening my party. The BJP has become victorious in all the bypolls held after it came to power in the state. In Koppal too, our candidate will win hands down. The people will not give credence to the baseless allegations being levelled by the Congress and JDS, which are out to defame me,” he added.
Yeddyurappa is here to perform ‘Chandika Homa’ at Goddess Mookambika Temple on ‘Mahalaya Amavasya’, which falls on September 27. He said he had set aside Rs 32 crore for implementing underground drainage and drinking projects of Kollur when he was the CM, and that these projects are being implemented now. He also claimed that with the efforts of local MP, B Y Raghavendra, a sum of Rs 200 crore was diverted to Kollur constituency as development grant.
The press conference was attended by B Y Raghavendra, Udupi district BJP president, Udayakumar Shetty, Byndoor BJP block president, Y Pranayakumar Shetty, BJP leaders, K B Shetty, Atulkumar Shetty, Somashekhar Bhat, and others.
