Bengaluru, Feb 25: India’s Constitution is the best in the world and Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the country’s Constitution, has incorporated the best features of Constitutions of different countries, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Sunday.
Addressing the Constitution and National Unity Convention held under the auspices of the State’s Social Welfare Department held at the Bengaluru Palace Grounds, he said the Indian Constitution had incorporated the teachings and ideals preached by Budda, Basavanna and other Lingayat Sharanas who propagated Vachana Revolution, Kuvempu and Swamy Vivekananda.
"There is no future for democracy if those who want to change the Constitution must be thrown out of power," he said.
Siddaramaiah said the BJP MP from Karwar, who had served as minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet, had openly declared that the BJP has come to power to change the Constitution.
"This audacious and brazen statement has not been condemned either by Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah or any other leaders or even by the RSS leaders or even opposed,’’ he said pointing out that the incident was a clear admission of the BJP and RSS agenda.
He warned the people to be cautious about BJP and RSS and their sinister designs ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
The people must be vigilant about the threats to the Constitution, which is the only bulwark for the people, farmers, workers and women as well as minorities, he said.
The Chief Minister said the country would be subjected to slavery once again if the Constitution is not safeguarded.
AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, leaders of INDIA opposition block Dr Frarooq Abdulla, Sitaram Yechuri and leaders of 18 anti-BJP opposition parties and other ministers from Karnataka attended the convention.
