Udupi, Feb 20: "Everyone should become good citizens by obeying duties of the Constitution in the same way as citizens get their rights given under the Constitution," said Deputy deputy commissioner Mamata Devi G S.
She was speaking at the Constitution Awareness Drive organised by the district administration. "We have learned a lot about the Constitution from the Constitution Awareness Drive that traveled across the district. Constitution awareness should be adopted more often. Citizens of India should claim their rights by raising their voice. The Constitution is a beacon for us in building a better society," she added.
CMC member Vijay Kodavoor said, "We should respect the country in our actions and words. Youth is the power of the country and they should be awakened. Along with education, the youth should come forward in the defense of the country."
Senior civil judge and District Legal Service Authority read the Preamble of Constitution. Ashmit A J sang the preamble song of the Constitution melodiously.
On this occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions organised as part of Constitution Awareness Drive.
Dr B R Ambedkar's portrait was displayed in rangoli and coconut feathers.
CMC members Jayanti Poojary Balakrishna Shetty, Savita Harish Ram, Harish Shetty, Prabhakara Poojary, ASP Siddalingappa, deputy director of social welfare department Anita Madluru, CMC commissioner Rayappa, district level officials, principals of various colleges, students and others were present in the programme.
Dr G Bhaskar Shetty, principal of Dr G Shankar Government Women's First Class College welcomed, Assistant director of youth empowerment and sports department Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty compered.
Earlier in the day, deputy commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari welcomed the Constitution Awareness Drive in Udupi's Brahmagiri Circle.
The Constitution Awareness Drive went from Brahmagiri Circle to the District Stadium. SP Dr Arun K and others were present.
A torch light march was also organised as part of the drive on Monday, February 19. Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari flagged off the march.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, trainee IPS officer Harshampriyavada, social welfare officer Anita Madlur and others were present.
Students chanted slogans about the Constitution and marched from Ajjarakad Martyrs' Memorial to the bus stand.
