Mangaluru, Feb 12: A two wheeler rider died as his vehicle was hit by a KSRTC bus near Arkula Dwara at Adyar on national highway on Sunday February 11.
The deceased is identified as Charanraj (34), a local resident. He was entering the highway from the inner road, when he was hit by the bus.
Charanraj, who had been married for just a year and is survived by wife and child. He was the only son of his parents.
Anger and frustration among locals boiled over as they blocked traffic, decrying the lack of safety measures taken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Their grievances were exacerbated by the absence of adequate safety precautions and alleged unscientific work on the highway.
The accident spot had a barricade intended to control the speed of vehicles, but it had fallen down after being struck by a vehicle the previous night. This allowed the bus to approach at high speed, leading to the fatal collision. Shockingly, locals claim that more than ten fatalities have occurred in similar circumstances following road construction by the NHAI.
This tragic incident echoes a similar accident last December when another bike rider lost his life at the same location due to a collision with a bus. Despite repeated pleas from residents, local authorities have failed to address their concerns.
