Udupi, Feb 5: "The AICC has given me a big responsibility of preparing the grounds for upcoming elections in Udupi - Chickkamagaluru constituency. I had worked in the Chickmagaluru constituency during the election of Indira Gandhi from Chickmagaluru" said K J George, energy minister of the Karnataka government.
He was speaking at the party workers' meeting at Udupi Congress Bhavan. "Congress is still strong. This fact we have realised during the assembly elections. Even though we were targeted with false accusations stating that Congress is against Bajarangdal and Sri Ram Sene we won the elections. Bajrang Dal was involved in a bar attack that happened in Mangaluru. Are they the followers of Hanuman? Even our leaders are Hindu religious followers. Our ancestors dared the bullets of Britishers. We have to be the voice of people's problems and fight for the people. The common people are our vote banks. The mouth to mouth publicity of the general public is the biggest asset. Our party workers have a great responsibility during elections in formatting this as the leaders cannot be present on each and every booth during elections. The power we have got should be utilised for the people and not for our personal gains. The guarantee schemes should reach every household and that is the real intention of our chief minister" he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA said, "K J George has been given the greatest responsibility of upcoming elections. He had worked for Indira Gandhi when she contested from Chickmagaluru constituency. He has been instrumental in building the Congress party on various levels. K J George has given opportunities for many young leaders, including me. Our chief minister Siddaramaiha and DCM DK Shivakumar have planned a huge protest against the central government's non aid". A totalitarian government is running the country. We have not been getting our shares of taxes as well. Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister of the country is representing our state itself, but still we are neglected. The farmer welfare minister and the representative of our own constituency has never spoken about her department not even once. The 27 MP's are also not concerned about the matter," he said.
District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, working president Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, leaders M A Gaffur, Prasadraj Kanchan, Dinesh Hegde Molahalli, Veronica Cornelio and others were present on the occasion.
