Bangalore, Sep 20 (IANS) Karnataka governor H.R. Bharadwaj Tuesday accepted the resignation of state Lokayukta Shivaraj V. Patil, who quite late Monday amid controversy over the purchase of housing sites in contravention of rules.
"Governor accepted the resignation of Shivaraj V. Patil as Lokayukta of Karnataka with effect from September 20, 2011," a communique from Raj Bhavan said.
The state's first ombudsman to leave office amid a row, Patil tendered his resignation to Bhardwaj Monday evening after explaining to him that no rules had been violated and no impropriety committed in purchasing the second plot in his wife Annapurna's name, Raj Bhavan sources said.
Patil had assumed office Aug 3, succeeding N. Santosh Hegde, a key aide of social activist Anna Hazare in his campaign against corruption.
