Kundapura, Jan 31:. Free simple community wedding ceremonies were held for five couples at the Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple under Karnataka State Mangala Bhagya project on Wednesday.

The wedding ceremonies were solemnised during the Abhijin Muhoortha from 11.20 am to 12.20 pm. Subrahmanya Poojary – Ashwini, Ajita – Mookambu, Vittala – Anitha, Anil – Vasanti and Chandrashekar – Jalaja were the couples who tied into wedlock.

A sum of Rs 5,000 each was handed over to the grooms for flower garland and wedding clothes and Rs 10,000 each to the brides for flower garland, saree and blouse piece. All the brides were also presented with gold chain, two other gold ornaments and Rs 40,000 in cash. The total amount handed over to each couple was Rs 55,000.

Kollur grama panchayat president Vanita Udaya Sherugar, vice-president Nagesh Kundapur, sub-divisional officer and Kollur Temple administrator Rashmi S R, Udupi district religious endowment department assistant commissioner Prashanth Kumar Shetty, Byndoor tahsildar Pradeep, assistant executive officer Pushpalatha, Kollur grama panchayat management officer Veeresh and others were present. Kollur Mookambika Temple priest Vedamurthi Gajanana Jois conducted the rituals.
