Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (MS)

Kasargod, Jan 30: Rs 50 lac is collected in fines by the district fisheries department for illegal fishing in the past six months.

A boat belonging to Karnataka, which was fishing at Manjeshwar sea in the night was confiscated in a joint operation by fisheries department, Kumble, Bekala, Trikaripur and coastal police.

There is no permission for mechanized boats to do fishing within a 12 nautical miles area from sea shore in Kerala. This causes inconvenience to traditional fishermen.

Hence, the fisheries department of Kerala has taken stringent action in this regard as per the information provided by district fisheries deputy director K A Labeeb.
