Mangaluru, Jan 29: “The mantra of Mahatma Gandhi is ideal to tackle the terrorist and fanatic forces that have created an atmosphere of fear and discrimination in the country,” said MLC B K Hariprasad.

He was speaking after inaugurating the seminar on the subject of "Gandhi Karavali Beti – Sandesha – Savalugalu" (Gandhi's visit to coastal belt – message – challenges) at Sahodaya auditorium, Balmatta on Monday, Januray 29 held in memory of Mahatma Gandhi by the DYFI 12th state conference welcome committee.

“The principles of Mahatma Gandhi are conducive at all times,” he said.

“As many as 230 people have written Ramayana in the entire India. There are several Ramayanas including the ones by Valmiki, Tulasidas and Ramayana Darshanam by Kuvempu. We do not know which Rama to believe. Mahatma Gandhi had dreamt of Ramarajya and made his vision clear,” he said.

“Mahatma Gandhi believed that India with seven main religions, 4,500 castes and 19,000 languages can be taken forward with the theory of equality among religions. He sacrificed his life for it,” he said.

Dr Uday Irvathur Gandhi who tabled the subject said fraternity between Hindus and Muslims is necessary for peace and harmony in this country. “Mahatma Gandhi had given the message that there should be no lack of trust among them. The message is more relevant today,” he said.

Retired IAS officer A B Ibrahim who presided over the programme said that politicians are using religion for politics these days. “It is unfortunate. Gandhi had worked for a society of equality,” he said.

DYFI state president Munir Katipalla welcomed and gave an introduction. DYFI district president B K Imtiaz was on the dais.

Secretary Santhosh Bajal compered the programme. Treasurer Manoj Vamanjoor proposed a vote of thanks.
