Mangalore, Sep 17: Officials of the city corporation’s health department inspected some hotels located near the old port dock in Bunder area of the city and checked their conformity with maintenance of hygiene. The team, which inspected over 15 hotels on Friday, found that most of them lack the basic requirement of hygiene and cleanliness.
The team conducted the raid, following receipt of a number of complaints from the area. The fact that over 50 persons from the area are suffering from jaundice had also alerted the health team. The officials warned hotels which failed to stick to cleanliness provisions.
In some hotels, the officials found polluted water being supplied to customers. Samples of the water have been sent for laboratory testing. In one of the hotels, the owner, seeing the team coming, downed the shutters. The officials gained entry inside through the backdoor.
The inspection was conducted by a team led by health officer, Dr Manjaiah Shetty, environment engineer, Madhu, health standing committee chairman, Yashwant Meenakaliya, and corporator, Ranganath Kini.
