Udupi, Sep 17: ‘Dr K K Hebbar–100’, a three-day celebration of the birth centenary of renowned cartoonist Dr K K Hebbar, was inaugurated at Ravindra Kala Mantap, MGM College, on Friday September 16.
It was jointly organized by Kannada and culture department and the district administration under the aegis of Dr K K Hebbar birth centenary committee.
A G Kodgi, chairman, Third Finance Commission task force, inaugurated the programme on Friday.
In his inaugural address, Kodgi said that Karnataka is the centre of cultures. “There are many veterans in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district who have made significant achievements in different fields. One needs to apply common sense to understand the underlying message in every cartoon,” he said. He also urged compilation of the works of Dr Hebbar for posterity.
Renowned artist Peter Lewis inaugurated the exhibition of Dr Hebbar’s cartoons on the occasion.
He said that an artist has emotional attachment to his paintings. “Art is a type of language,” he said. Lewis urged the artists to have great regard for his her surroundings. The exhibition will conclude on Sunday September 18.
