Mangaluru, Jan 22: To encourage singing talent and foster unity among parishioners, ICYM Unit of St Joseph the Worker Church Neermarga conducted an Inter-Ward Solo and group singing competition on January 21 at St Joseph Old School.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by ICYM members. ICYM president Jeshma Saldanha welcomed the gathering. Ishal D’Souza and Rovita Lasrado introduced the judges followed by briefing on rules and regulations of the competitions. There were 7 categories for boys and girls and men and women comprising solo and group singing. Totally 76 participants took part in solo and 7 wards took part in group singing.
ICYM members actively helped conducting the competition and Sr Patricia was instrumental in summing up the scores.
In the stage programme that ensued next, parish priest Fr Paul Pinto, Fr Timothy Saldanha, vice president Francis Gonsalves, Judges Alwyn D’Cunha, Wilma Viola Lobo, Kokkada, Sr Preethan Saldanha AC and Jason Rebello Moodbidri, ICYM Animator Prasad Vas were present on the dais.
Fr Paul Pinto in his speech congratulated the parishioners for taking active part in the singing competition. Prasad Vas felicitated the judges. The winners in each category were awarded the prizes. The overall champion of the singing competition was Nithyadar Ward, runner up Trophy was bagged St Joseph and St Francis Assisi wards. Jenisha Mendonca and Ocheal Serrao read out the names of the winners.
Ishal D’Souza compered the programme and Ocheal Serrao proposed a vote of thanks.
