Sullia, Sep 16: “There are ample opportunities in the fast developing retail marketing industry that has grown beyond imagination. The industry is expected to witness a growth of five to six times thereby achieving business volumes of Rs 300 billion,” said Dr K Devaraj, principal, SDM Business Management College, Mangalore.
He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day UGD sponsored national seminar on ‘Indian Retail Industry–Challenges, Opportunities, and Strategies’ at Nehru Memorial College here on Thursday September 15.
“The customer’s taste, financial condition, and necessity have changed over two decades. Customers expect quality products and services. The success of an enterprise lies in fulfilling its customer’s satisfaction, hence the need to undertake research in retail industry. It would create ample employment opportunities and quality employees. This calls for making changes in the curriculum in the university, covering all aspects of retail industry,” added Dr Devaraj.
Dr S Ramesh, head, MBA of Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, delivered the keynote address.
Academy of General Education deputy chairman Dr K V Chidanand presided over the programme.
Nehru Memorial College principal Professor K V Damodar Gowda, Mangalore University Commerce Lecturers’ Association secretary Professor Sridar Maniyani, Academy of General Education director Shobha Chidanand, and seminar co-ordinator Professor Giridar Gowda were present on the dais.
The renowned lecturers and professionals from across the nation will present their papers during the two-day seminar.
