Chikmagalur, Sep 15: On Wednesday September 14, the district Lokayukta police arrested a revenue inspector named Poonresh Murthy, for accepting bribe from a person. Murthy is the revenue inspector attached to Gonibeedu revenue division in the district, and he was taken into custody from Megalapete in Moodigere town.
Chandre Gowda from Hireshigara village had applied in 1985 for the regularization of encroached revenue land measuring 4.30 acres. The then tahsildar had rejected the application. In 2010, Chandre Gowda referred the application again to Chikmagalur assistant commissioner (AC), for review of earlier decision. The AC, while upholding the application, referred it to the revenue inspector of Gonibeedu revenue division for his recommendation.
When the application came to him, Poornesh Murthy reportedly demanded for a bribe at the rate of Rs 30,000 per acre. Even though Chandre Gowda tried to convince him to accept slightly lower amount, he was not agreeable. Chandre Gowda then complained to Lokayukta police in the town.
Mysore Lokayukta superintendent of police, S E D’Souza, Chikmagalur Lokayukta deputy superintendent of police, Rama Naik, and other officials participated in the raid.
