Mangalore: 'Eligible' Fraudster Targeting Gullible Widows Nabbed

Mangalore, Sep 13: A person, who used to release matrimonial advertisements in newspapers, seeking alliances from spinsters, widows, or divorcee women, with the aim of cheating them, has been taken into custody by the police.
He has been identified as Ramakrishna alias Ramesh alias Dubai Ramakrishna alias Ramesh Babu (46), a native of Modagodu village, T Narasipura taluk in Mysore district.
The arrest was made, based on a complaint filed by an aggrieved woman in Bunder police station here some time back. Ramesh Babu, who was an under-trial prisoner relating to one such case, was brought here with the help of body warrant.
Ramesh used to release advertisements seeking marriage proposals from divorcees or widows. Once a woman contacted him, and he told her to meet him at a particular spot. The woman from Manglore was asked to meet him near a cafe in Balmatta here on August 10. He came to the city, and hired a room in a lodge on K S Rao Road.
He accompanied the woman to Gurpur Service Cooperative Bank and got the gold ornaments pledged by her released, by paying Rs 1,70,079. He then returned to the lodge. At around 7.30 am on August 11, he left the room telling the woman that he would return after visiting salon for a shave. But he never came back, and took away 181 grams of gold ornaments with him.
The police found that such cheating cases had been filed in several police stations like Yeshwantpur Bangalore, Chennammanakere station, Victoria Hospital Bangalore outpost, Hanumantnagar station, Saraswatipuram, Hubli Vidyanagar station, Mandya west station etc, against him. He also is said to be facing cases of fraud in several other stations.
The city police, who noted that he was able to easily fleece the divorcee and widowed women, have requested women not to get carried away by promises doled out through such advertisements.
