Puttur, Jan 3: A wild tusker invaded a plantation belonging to one Kumar Pernaje and caused huge crop damage early on Wednesday, Jan 3.
It is believed that it was a lone tusker from the Anegundi sanctuary on the Puttur-Sullia-Kerala border.
It is also believed that the elephant that had separated from its herd from Kanakamajalu entered Pernaje from Mugeri and moved backwards towards Mugeri while invading plantations in Mandekolu, Mururu, Bellippadi and Panjikallu areas.
The tusker invaded the gardens and destroyed a number of crops including banana plantations and jackfruit trees following which the surrounding villagers expressed worry.
The forest department officials have instructed the farmers not to go to the plantations in the night.
