Bhatkal, Sep 12: 55-year-old Abdul Salam Damda, a resident of Bhatkal who went missing since September 6, was found dead on Sunday September 11. His dead body was found near Manikatta forest which is about 18 km away from Kumta.
Abdul had gone to Sirsi to deal with some land business and the last call he made was to his wife on September 6. On the spot where his body was found, a wallet, slippers and belt were also found. It is learnt that he had taken around Rs one lac cash with him while leaving home.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.
He served as the member of Jali Panchayath in Bhatkal for 20 years. He was also the president of Jali Panchayat. Soon after the news of the unnatural death spread, people in large numbers gathered at his house.
Post mortem was done at Kumta Government hospital last night at 11.30 pm. The body was cremated at the burial ground of Jamiya Mosque Bhatkal. A case has been registered in Kumta police station. A A team led by Bhatkal SI Shivaprakash is investigating the case.
