Milan, Sep 11 (IANS): Inter Milan's head coach Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed Saturday that star footballer Wesley Sneijder could play as a forward in the new season.
"I see Sneijder as a forward," Gasperini told the press before Inter's Serie A match agains Palermo.
"He is one of the most important players in the world right now and I hope he can have an exceptional campaign.
"We do have a large squad and I consider Sneijder to be a forward, although obviously he can be used in different roles when needed. We have numerous options and this is why I have great faith in this team," he said.
Xinhua reported the Dutchman will be dropped for Sunday night's trip to Palermo, as he will then take cup-tied Diego Forlan's place in the Champions League.
"I made a bet with Wesley. Last season he scored four goals in 25 games, while I am convinced he will have more. The position isn't a problem, as we have a basic structure and can place many variations upon it. This controversy is stirred up by the media, as it is not as if Inter will collapse if Sneijder doesn't play," Gasperini said.
