Uduppi, Sep 10: Renowned theatre personality from Karnataka, Chidambar Rao Jambe, will be conferred the Prof Ku Shi Folklore Award by Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Research Centre on Monday September 12.
Jambe, who completed his PU education in 1967, was trained in Yakshagana art form at Yakshagana Kendra here during 1977-78. After completing his catering training in drama at Bangalore, Jambe secured his diploma from National School of Drama, New Delhi, in 1982.
Jambe was the principal of Neenasam Heggodu, a premier organization involved with providing training in different aspect of theatre, for 22 years from 1982 to 2004. He also functioned as the director of Rangayana, Mysiore between 2004 and 2008. From 2008 to 2010, he worked as honorary director of Shivakumara Theatre School Sanehalli. Presently, he is the director of National School of Drama, Bangalore unit.
Jambe, who has directed many plays, also has provided theatre training to scores of budding artistes. He has special interest in plays meant for children. He has won a number of awards and recognitions for his achievements, including Karnataka Nataka Academy Award and membership of National School of Drama.
