Mangalore, Sep 10: Public works department (PWD) superintending engineer, B S Balakrishna, has suspended five engineers of the department for dereliction of duty by way of neglecting road repair works.
The suspended employees are, Subraya S Hegde and Harish, junior engineers of Udupi subdivision, assistant engineer, N Umashankar Rao, Karkala subdivision assistant engineer, H K Sundar, and draughtsman, L C Sequeira.
Through a show-cause notice slapped on the five, the superintending engineer has said that government grant had been sanctioned for the maintenance of district main roads, and programme schedule had also been approved. The department officials were also instructed to ensure that the roads are motorable. He has said that during inspection, the condition of the state highway 65 connecting the district with Shimoga and several other roads are despicable.
Noting that these employees have not discharged their duties in a responsible manner, the superintending engineer has asked the employees to send their clarifications thorough the executive engineer within three days.
