Jeddah, Sep 9 (Arab News): Indian Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad, who has ended his term of office in Riyadh, was given a farewell by India Forum in Jeddah over the weekend. Ahmad thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and his government and Saudis for enabling him to discharge his duties across the Kingdom.

Ahmad, who earlier served his country as its consul general in Jeddah, said he had a special attachment with Saudi Arabia. He said members of the Indian community had contributed immensely to raising the status of their country among Saudis by offering professional services, and showing dedication and commitment toward the development of the Kingdom. “This is evident from the respect and confidence they enjoy in local official and public circles.”

He affirmed that taking care of Haj arrangements for the pilgrims coming from his country year after year has remained a top priority for the diplomatic mission. He added that India has changed a lot since Independence and that the country today boasts the world’s biggest reservoir of scientific and technical manpower, which is in great demand locally and internationally.

Indian Consul General Faiz Ahmad Kidwai said it was a matter of pride for the community that Ahmad, the recipient of the King Abdul Aziz Medal, excelled himself as the envoy.

Indian Haj Consul B.S. Mubarak, also director of India Forum, reviewed Ahmad’s contribution during his two diplomatic terms and detailed the forum activities.
