Mumbai, Dec 23: "Journalists and politicians have a close relationship, one cannot exist without the other. It is a great responsibility of journalists to come to Mumbai from the city and settle down and strengthen the Kannada language, culture and heritage a lot. Journalists have made a great contribution to save not only their profession but also language and culture. The service of Kannadiga journalists in Maharashtra is also praiseworthy in order to save Kannada which is on the verge of destruction along with western culture," said Karnataka legislative assembly speaker U T Khader.
Karnataka government minister for agriculture Cheluvaraya Swamy inaugurated the function presided over by Karnataka Union of Working Journalists president Shivananda Tagadur at the late Radha Bhoja Shetty Suratkal stage at the Club House, Chakala in Andheri East, Mumbai on Saturday. U T Khader was the chief guest.

Karnataka assembly speaker U T Khader distributed KWJ identity card to Rons Bantwal, who was elected as the president of the Maharashtra unit of the Karnataka Working Journalists Association and Dr Shiv Mudigere as a general secretary. KUWJ president Shivananda Tagaduru took charge and congratulated them.
State level cricket tournament of Journalists held in January in honour of the late Capt M V Pranjal. KUWJ brand Mangaluru Rohan cup tournament captain invitation was released by minister Cheluvaraya. Capt Dr Shiva Mudigere was invited by Srinivasa Nayak to the Kapasama Mumbai team to participate in the tournament.
Karnataka Working Journalists Association in collaboration with Kannadiga Journalists Association Maharashtra inaugurated the Karnataka-Maharashtra Journalists Association and inaugurated the Maharashtra unit of Karnataka Working Journalists Association.
In order to bring all the Kannada journalists who are constantly working in Maharashtra together on one platform, Karnataka Working Journalists' Maharashtra event has been established, said Shivananda Tagadoor. Work is going on to bring Kannada journalists all over the country under one platform. A Maharashtra unit has now been established in Mumbai. He said that through this, everyone is coming on the same platform, he added.
KUWJ vice president Ajjamada Ramesh Kuttappa, Bhavanising Thakur, secretaries Mathikere Jayarama, Ningappa Chavadi, Somashekhar Keragodu treasurer M Vasudeva Holla, DK District Journalists Association honorary secretary Jitendra Kundeshwar, Ullala Patrkartara Sangha vice president Arif Dertalakatte, Businessman Surendra A Poojary and Sri Chittari Hospitality director Sadaram Shetty Sampadamane was specially honoured by U T Khader.
Kannadiga Patrakatara Sangha Maharashtra vice president Dr Shiva Mudigere welcomed. President Rons Bantwal introduced and felicitated guests. Vishwanath Poojary Niddody, Dr G P Kusuma, Nagesh Poojary Elinje, Anita Poojary Thakode, Gopal Poojary Trasi, Savita S Shetty, Ranga S Poojary, Dr Durgappa Kotiyavar introduced the guests. Honorary general secretary Daya compared the programme and gave vote of thanks. The ceremony concluded with the national anthem.
