Mangalore, Sep 9: In an act of utter callousness, staff manning the mortuary of Wenlock Hospital here delivered the body of some other person to the relatives who had come to claim the body of another deceased man on Thursday September 8.
Ganesh, residing near Bantwal, had lost his life in an accident. His body was kept in the said mortuary. At the same time, the body of Raju from Tamil Nadu, who fell down from a fishing boat three days back and went missing, was also preserved there.
After post mortem, the body of Ganesh was handed over to his relatives. The relatives of Ganesh, who placed the body given to them in the ambulance, were waiting for someone. At the same time, another ambulance came to pick up the body of Raju. When Raju’s mortal remains were delivered, the concerned found out that the body belonged to someone else. Thereupon, the body of Raju, which had earlier been delivered to Ganesh’s relatives, was taken back from the ambulance and replaced.
The claimants of both the bodies got angry at this callous attitude and took the employees handling corpses to task for irresponsible behaviour. As the relatives of Ganesh had not yet left, the exchange of bodies did not pose complications.
