Bangalore, Sep 8: The Lokayukta police, on the basis of a complaint filed by Noor Ahmed, who runs a tailoring shop with moderate means in Shivajinagar in the city, have registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against a police inspector and a constable. The inspector in question has been identified as Ratnakar Shetty, who heads Amritahalli police station here, and constable of the station, Sohail.
Before the Lokayukta team reached the said police station to nab the above two policemen, both of them ran away and avoided being arrested.
Reportedly, the said inspector and his constable had arrested Noor Ahmed on September 2, alleging that he had some stolen items in his shop. The tailoring shop of Noor Ahmed is small. For two days, he was kept in illegal confinement and tortured. He was told that he would be released if he is prepared to pay a bribe of ten lac rupees to them. Once Noor agreed to the condition, they let him go.
Noor went to the Lokayukta police and complained to the officials. As the officials wanted records to prove his allegations, Nooor went back to Amritahalli police station, and bargained for paying five lac rupees instead of ten lac rupees. Ratnakar Shetty, who scaled down his demand to five lac rupees, told Noor that he can conclude financial dealings with his constable, Sohail. Noor Ahmed then went to Sohail and tried to convince him to accept Rs 2.5 lac as final payment. The constable told him that the inspector had instructed him not to accept anything less than five lac rupees. Noor recorded these conversations and handed the same to the Lokayukta police.
The Lokayukta police decided to nab the inspector and constable in question. A sum of Rs 1.5 lac was given to Noor Ahmed. They went to Amrithalli police station on Wednesday. But, the inspector and his constablel had got prior information about the upcoming raid. They ran away from the police station before the team reached the police station. The Lokayukta police have now registered a case based on the records submitted by Noor Ahmed.
