Mangaluru, Dec 8: The Mangaluru CCB police have arrested two persons involved in selling MDMA (Methylene dioxy methamphetamine) drugs to the members of the public and students across the city and seized drugs worth Rs 6 lac.
On receiving information that two of them were in possession of MDMA drugs and selling it to the public and students in the Kadri Park area of Mangaluru city, the police raided the area and seized the banned drug MDMA.
The accused arrested are Nawaz, 40, a resident of Pavur village of Manjeshwar taluk in Kasaragod district and Azharuddin alias Azar, 39, a resident of Pudu village of Farangipet in Bantwal taluk.
In total, the police recovered 120 grams worth of MDMA drug worth Rs 6 lac from the accused. The police also seized three mobile phone handsets, a digital weighing scale and a Suzuki Access scooter. The total value of seized assets is estimated at Rs 6,83,120.
A case has been registered against the accused in Cen Crime police station. The police suspect the involvement of many more in the sale of banned drugs and the search is on.
A case has been registered against Nawaz, one of the accused in Konaje police station in connection with drug consumption. Earlier, another accused Nawas, had about five cases registered against his name including one of dowry harassment in Konaje police station, sale of narcotic drug marijuana in Bantwal rural police station and two other cases of theft in Mangaluru South police station.
The CCB police conducted the operation under the guidance of Anupam Agarwal, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City. CCB unit officers and other personnel were also involved in the search operation.
