Abu Dhabi, Sep 6: ‘Pearls of Mangalore', a group of Konkani enthusiasts based in Abu Dhabi, have announced the first ‘Pearl Voice-Junior' singing contest for talented Konkani singers in the UAE.
Alphonse Mendonce, leader, Pearls of Mangalore (POM), says, "A singing contest featuring and providing a platform for the new and the talented has been our purpose. We believe that the young have a greater part to play in ensuring the bright future of our families and our community as a whole.”
The event aims to bring together the young voices of Mangalore in the UAE. Children in the age group 8 to 13 can participate.
Rules:
• Contest is open to UAE residents only
• There are two categories – 1) 8 to 10 years 2) 11 to 13 years
• Singing would be in Konkani (Mangalorean Catholic) language
• Audition will be conducted to shortlist 6 contestants from each group for the final contest
• Based on the number of entries, POM will revert with dates for audition; if number of entries is large, POM reserves the right to ask for pre-recorded songs which will be used for short listing
• A copy of passport with visa page should be submitted along with the CD/USB with three recorded songs to be selected for audition

The forms should be completed and reach before September 25, 2011.The first audition will be held during the second week of October with the finals during the first week of December 2011.
