Puttur, Dec 6: Locals here caught an accused of serial theft that occurred at Kedila on November 22 and handed him over to the police.
The accused is identified as Aboobacker alias Ithe Barpe Aboobacker, a resident of Kadambu, near Vittal and currently staying at Uppalli, Chikkamagaluru. Police produced him in the court. He was remanded to judicial custody till December 19.
The accused who had broken into the house of Ramla Kunhi, Kedila, and had stolen a bike parked at Ummar Farooq’s house at Kodi. Complaints in this connection were filed at Puttur town police station.
The accused had hidden the stolen bike on a hill. He bought petrol from a petrol bunk on Monday to take the vehicle away. The villagers who observed him, grew suspicious and followed him. He was caught red-handed when they went to the hill where the vehicle was hidden. The locals later handed him over to the police.
Ramla Kunhi had gone to Bengaluru for business at 8 pm on November 22. When Hamid, a resident of Kedila Mithapadpu, went there in the morning on November 23, he found that the lock of the door of the house was broken. Rs two lac cash from the cupboard was stolen. Besides that, the two-wheeler belonging to Ummar Farooq parked at the yard of the house was missing. Separate complaints were filed at the town police station in this connection. Both the thefts were reported in one night.
