Bangalore, Sep 5: Karnataka state BJP president, K S Eshwarappa, has served notice on party MP, D B Chandre Gowda, for issuing a controversial statement. Gowda has been asked to furnish explanation to the party about his statement that the BJP will lose the election if it fights Koppal bypoll under the leadership of state Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, and therefore, demanding that the electioneering be led by former Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa.
Chandre Gowda had issued the above statement on Saturday September 3. He had said that the party cannot be rest assured of victory, if it fights the election under the leadership of the Chief Minister. It may be recalled that Koppal MLA, Karadi Sanganna, had jumped over to BJP bandwagon in ‘Operation Kamala in March this year from the JDS. He however, is not interested to fight the election again.
Eshwarappa said that Chandre Gowda’s statement had insulted both the party and the Chief Minister. “Party leadership can alone decide on who should head the poll campaign. On which capacity has Chandre Gowda demanded not to fight the election under the leadership of Sadananda Gowda? Who gave him the authority to issue this statement?” Eshwarappa commented, stating that these questions have also been posed to Gowda in the letter served on him.
