Mangalore, Sep 5: In an accident that occurred near Netravati Bridge in Ullal here early morning on Monday September 5, a car driver lost his life, while another person in the car suffered serious injuries.
A city bus coming from Kumpala to the city hit a Maruti Alto car coming from opposite direction. The car was turned into a bundle of mangled metal, and the driver was crushed to death on the spot.
Because of the accident, which took place at around 5.45 am, traffic was blocked and long lines of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road. The policemen from Konaje and Ullal reached the spot thereafter, struggled to pave way for orderly movement of vehicles. The body of the driver was taken out after lot of efforts, as it had got stuck in the car. An identity card with the name, ‘Ashwath, Jappinamogeru’ was found on the body of the driver, and it is thought to be his identity card. Although the name of the injured person has been given as Khaleel, it is yet to be confirmed. He was admitted to district Wenlock Hospital here.
The accident reportedly was caused because of rash driving by the bus driver. The mangled car was removed with the help of a crane by the police at around 7 pm. A case was registered in rural police station here.
