Mangalore, Sep 4: The critic programme of two works in Beary language, one being ‘Taravad’ authored by U A Kasim Ullal and another ‘Nando Raya Nando Samskrithi’ authored by T A Aliyabba Jokatte was held at a programme organiZed in Hotel Srinivas on Sunday September 4.
Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy president M B Abdul Rehman presided.
Upcoming writer Ismath Fazeer as a critic on ‘Taravad’ book said that in the book the culture of Beary community is unveiled which is very touchy, even reachable to a common reader. The book mirrored on the cultural modification took place over a period of time.
The history of Ullal, cultural dimension and diversion of the Beary community is brought up in the form of letters in the book. Also in few pages the author adds humour on the superstitious beliefs that existed among Muslims. This literature book also highlights the harmonious relationship of Bearys with other community people and their co-operation to Bearys and also the author openly mentions about Brahmins’ had a hatred feeling towards bearys.
Few exclusive materials used by Bearys like ‘Peekadani’ ‘Jabana’, ‘Jast’ ‘Kalambi’ takes the readers to about 50 to 60 years ago period and this book is a must read and a good record for future Beary generation, he opined.
Another critic Dr N Ismail, principal, Badriya PU College, commenting on Taravad, said that in this book the author has highlighted lavish expenditure made on marriage rituals by the community people and the use of language is wonderful and well presented book, he opined. The objective of literature is not guidance, but presenting the truth existed by making comparison of contemporary thoughts and old views.
He also said that when he read the book, few pages were kind of ‘report about Beary history’ rather than being a novel. However he commended the author for not bringing any communal issues in his book.
Speaking on ‘Nando Raya, Nando Samskrithi’ he said that there is a confronting of culture of the land and civilization in the book. The book also mirrors the tradition of this land and mainly the village developing gradually is well presented in effective words in the book, he opined.
Umaranna, registrar of the academy was present on the occasion. Various people from different walks of life like lecturers, students, literature lovers among others were part of this critic programme.
