Mangalore: SDM Law College Rejoices in Spirit of Onam

Mangalore, Sep 3: The city's SDM Law College turned into a mini version of God's own country on Saturday September 3, with students from Kerala dressed in traditional attires celebrating Onam with much gaiety and enthusiasm.
Kerala high court judge N K Balakrishnan who was the chief guest lauded the efforts of the students in keeping their tradition alive despite staying away from home. He also appreciated the College for celebrating Onam and thus sustaining the spirit of unity and integrity.
He further said that Onam was a festival that was beyond the realms of religion and hence people from different walks of life celebrate it with joy.
Chairman of BJP state minorities Anwar Manippady, general manager of MRPL Lakshmi Kumaran, principal of the college Dr B K Ravindra, president of the Onam organizing committee Dr P D Sebastian, convener Sibi M P among others were present.
On Friday September 2, a 'Pookkalam' competition was held wherein participants came up with colourful arrangements of flower carpets.
Apart from performances depicting the rich culture of Kerala during the cultural programmes, the celebration also witnessed the local 'huli vesha'.
Earlier on Saturday various competitions like tug of war for men and lemon race were held which saw enthusiastic participation from students. A variety of traditional dishes added flavour to the celebrations.
The celebrations culminated in the evening with a rich display of fireworks.
